Jane and the team always provide a warm welcome at Cobbs. You can buy loose eggs, bread, olives, soap and crystal tumblestones. You can also grab a refill of fabric conditioner, laundry liquid and multi-surface cleaner.

Stylish, minimalist store with a wide range

Denude offers a great range of cupboard staples, spices, baking ingredients, tea and coffee, not to mention homewares, personal care and plastic-free gum. Visit for stylish refillable glass bottles for your home.

Earthfare, Glastonbury, BA6

Shampoo, hand soap and cleaning refills

Probably best described as a vegetarian supermarket, Earthfare offers own-brand herbs, spices, nuts, seeds, teas and other staples are packaged in compostable cellophane or paper. You can also pick up loose veg and refills.

Jody’s Haven, Shepton Mallet, BA4

Holistic treatments & clean beauty refills

Based at Jody’s organic farm, the Haven offers holistic beauty therapies and treatments. Jody is a stockist for ZAO and Natural Spa Factory, and carries a selection of Natural Spa Factory refills, including shampoo and conditioner.

Just about everything you wish you could find plastic-free lives in this shop, from oils, vinegars and syrups on-tap to DIY peanut butter and nut milks in returnable glass bottles. There’s a great range of sweet and salty snacks, too.

Weekly recipes and beer Saturdays

Great range of flours and special ingredients like sour cherries. The team sells everything from UK-made recycled and plastic-free toilet paper to plastic-free nappy cream and refills of bubble bath (and beer).

The Green Shop has a fantastic range of refillable cleaning products, shampoos and conditioners. You can also buy loose herbs and spices, soaps, beeswax candles in various sizes, and beeswax wraps.

Affordable range of delicious coffee beans

John and Jason’s vintage-style deli / health food store stocks a fair few zero waste goodies. They have the best range of zero waste coffee beans (including decaf) that I’ve seen, from Porlock-based company Miles

Great range of baking ingredients, including gluten-free

Jo’s well-stocked shop is full of essentials like gluten-free flour, beeswax wraps, vegan sweets and dishwasher rinse aid – plus all the usual staples. She has a great range of snacks, plus oils and vinegar on tap.

Bridport’s zero waste shop is one of my favourites. Lovely Lydia stocks store cupboard staples (from coffee beans to Bombay mix), personal care and household cleaning products, refillable containers + funky reusables.
